Est 2020

HD8 Car Group

As long as there's good food, good people and good cars, we'll be there. It doesn't even have to be sunny.

Who are we?

The HD8 Car Group

Founded in 2020, we are a group of like minded people who all share a passion for cars. Gathering together to share that passion at car shows, track days, or even just a potter down the B roads.

We strive to enjoy our own, and other cars. Whether they're state of the art or falling apart, we like them no matter what.

With a broad range of cars, and members, we are a gap in the market.

Out and About

Here are members, Guy, Daryl and Giles heading up the straight at Blyton Park, April 2023. Attending the 'Tip Top Track Day'.

Despite head quarters being in HD8, we won't hesitate to drive the distance to enjoy our cars at events.

The group doesn't always meet in full, but we try to get as many members involved as possible.

..HD8 CAR GROUP..

Happy New Year from the HD8 Car Group

Cars gather at The Black Bull to welcome 2024.

Happy New Year! The HD8 Car Group celebrates its 4th year in existence. 01/01/2024 marks our first organised breakfast meet.

The Black Bull in West Yorkshire is proving a popular choice among HD8GC members. With the AGM having been held there in November 2023 and members benefiting from a Christmas meal just before the New Year.

Organised by our Events Secretary, Guy, attendees of regular Unofficial Yorkshire Classic Cars events turned up to wish fellow motoring enthusiasts a happy new year.

There were MGs, Triumphs, TVRs, even a unique Aero-Engined-Edwardian beast in attendance. Most importantly, a full car park!

This event boasted a relaxed and social atmosphere that people seemed to enjoy. Of course, other locations were available for like minded enthusiasts to gather, however this venue consisted of hard standing parking and agreeable rates for refreshments. What more could a Motorist ask for?

£5 allowed members to warm up and chat over a hot drink and a Breakfast sandwitch. Most agreeable.

We, the HD8CG, are an informal group of car enthusiasts whom are not a club, or any sort of serious organisation. Every now and again, we like to have a chat, a meal or a drive in and around our weird and wonderful machinery.

Did you come along to this event? Did you miss it? Well, if the answer to either of those questions was yes, then please keep your eyes peeled for another meet in the early Spring.

Here's to another year of smiles per mile.

Updates from HD8 Car Group AGM

Members gather at new venue for not only the AGM, but future events...

Since its conception in 2020, the HD8 Car Group has only ever met in an official capacity twice. The Sovereign Inn, Shepley, was the location for last year's AGM. This year however, the group visited newly refurbished local pub, The Black Bull

Although not within HD8, the revised location is actually closer for most members. With that being said, member Ian Bartholemew, could virtually see the previous venue from his bedroom window. A second meeting for all members, a first for new foreign correspondents member, Kelly Hartley

The minutes from last year's meeting were discussed and a similar agenda seemed appropriate for this year also. Talk about old cars, talk nonsense, drink, eat, and go home.

Founding member, and newly appointed Merchandise Coordinator, Darren Storey, has been kind enough to supply members with a window sticker of the HD8 CG logo.

Other membership issues included the discussion of our usual New Year's Day Breakfast meet. Both the start of 2022 and 2023 saw us attend The Motorist in Leeds. A popular location but is quite the drive first thing on January 1st. Very cold as well.

Following a successful meal on Friday 10th November, members have agreed to meet at The Black Bull instead of The Motorist for the start of 2024

Exciting news for Darren and Finn. It is hoped that Finn will acquire use of Darren's MX5 once a new BMW convertible has been purchased...

It looks to be the end of convoys and car shows for 2023. Sad though that prospect may be, we have had our fair share of outings this year!

Members Celebrate Historic Hill Climb

HD8 Car Group members gather to celebrate the centenary of the Holme Moss Hill Climb.

The Holme Moss Hill Climb Centenary celebrates 100 years since the original competitive hill climb. An unusual approach to a hill climb; attendees gather at The Fleece Pub in Holme Villiage, and have the opportunity to purchase a commemorative programme for £5, stating that your car climbed Holme Moss 100 years on.

Today, the event is non-competitive and funds are raised for The Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Since it's conception in 2020, this format has proved very popular and has rasied £500 each year for the cause. However, 2023's event soared and smashed that previous record and reached £1045!

Cars vary at the event, but is a cracking day out for any petrol head. Admire the scenery whilst taking in MX5s, aero-engined beasts, pre-war delights, retro hatches and many more.

HD8 CG members gather for a pre-event meeting. Discussing gear ratios, track conditions and most importantly, catering arrangements.

A respectible attendance this year for the Holme Moss 100. Around 70 vehicles took to the hill to mark the special occasion, all road legal and at similarly legal speeds.

Holme Moss itself is very demanding for drivers. For some, it's part of the daily commute, for others it's an unforgiving monster. Camber changes, steep hills, narrow bends, long straights. It's a lot of fun! You're reminded of sharp drops to your left as you ascend, and to your right as you make your way back down.

At the top of the hill, a Huddersfield Motorclub official was waiting to sign your programme. A perfect addition to any history file.

Regarding the HD8 Car Group, we were sadly one member down. Therefore, in attendance we had Giles in his TR6, Darren and Finn in their newly acquired MX5, Ian in his TVR, Jim and Guy Loveridge in the Lancia and George in the Herald

Quite a mix of cars I'm sure you'd agree? Likewise with the others at the event. Most members struggled with a lack of traction and roof with the wet weather, while others in the sub 2-litre 'class' struggled with a lack of power!

Overall, another successful event attended by the HD8 Car Group. Moreover, we hope to attend many more in such large capacities.

Saturday 10th August 2024, will we see you there next year?
